Heirloom Amethyst & Green Bracelet Redesign – Collar necklace

Heirloom Amethyst & Green Bracelet Redesign – Collar necklace

This stunning amethyst and green collar necklace is part of a set of jewellery which Tara Lois was able to redesign and handcraft working with 2 precious old bracelets and unwanted gold jewellery. Redesigning heirloom jewellery to retain important emotional value is one of Tara Lois’ true specialisations.

The client owned 2 bracelets with special memories but both were too small. The first was a solid machined gold chain bracelet with amethysts she had bought for herself on a trip to Hong Kong in her early 30s. The other bracelet had even more sentimental value because her father had received it from an elderly relative and given it to his daughter, our client, when she was about 12 years old. The stones in this bracelet were green with veins of light brown but what made them truly special were that they had an iridescent mauve/blue highlight as they caught the light, like a butterfly wing. However, as she wore it so much it became clear that it was gold plated and eventually this wore away and she stopped wearing it.

Tara Lois first tested the green stones which the client had assumed were labradorites but they were glass. This impacted on the design because it was important that the glass was not under the wrist and subject to shocks, but the client never faltered in her decision to use the glass because its emotional value had always exceeded any possible financial value.

As an added bonus to creating a new bracelet, there was enough material remaining to allow Tara Lois to design a new collar necklace and a pair of earrings. The client now has a full collection of memorable new jewellery using only her original recycled gold and gemstones.

In our opinion heirloom redesign is the most emotional way to keep memories alive as well as offering a sustainable vision for jewellery creation.
