Part of the Refraction Collection, this contemporary silver collar attracts the eye because at first glance it looks unusual with a black wave shape contrasting with the white silver, until the wearer stands sideways to a light source and then the surprise, as the wave lights up with blue, violet and a dot of orange plique-a-jour enamel.
Inspired by a relaxing summer’s afternoon by the pool in Malta, when Tara Lois saw an equally surprising display of coloured light, as the sun refracted into a line of rainbow light through the glass balustrade onto the pools gently waved water surface.
This collar necklace captures that moment of unexpected magic using plique-a-jour enamel, a very old and difficult enamelling technique where finely ground powdered glass is suspended in water and held in an opening using only surface water tension. Once heated in the kiln the glass fuses and creates a stained glass window effect.
Approx size: Silver rectangle 3.5cm length x 3.3cm wide, Collar diameter approx. 14cm.
Hand made in sustainable 925 sterling silver and lead-free vitreous enamel which has been fired in the kiln at over 800°C so small imperfections may exist.
