Stalactite Two Fingered Ring

Stalactite Two Fingered Ring

Gender neutral modern design has been fused with Malta’s ancient past in this unique ring design by Tara Lois.

The second oldest rock forming the Maltese Islands started to be created 30 million years old and it is this limestone layer which today is quarried for building stone. Very rarely a cavern is found with stalagmites and stalactites but previously these have been discarded but now these unwanted by-products are being collected for Tara Lois.

The shape of this ring reflects traditional rectangular Maltese homes built with the rectangular limestone blocks, while the stalagmites and stalactites were the inspiration for the stylised textured surface embossing. The ancient stone is shaped and polished by hand into carefully drilled cylinders, by a Maltese artisan, before being set like the precious material they truly are, in recycled 925/sterling silver jewellery.

The ring is created using state-of-the-art CAD drawings to print 3D wax models. International award-winning jeweller, Tara Lois then casts these by hand using ancestral techniques in her Gozo workshop and the result of each casting has slight variations to texture and finish and every stone is unique.

The ring has been designed to fit across 2 fingers and can easily be adjusted to fit most finger sizes.

This ring is a truly contemporary expression of the fascinating story of Malta today – a fusion of the ancient and modern.

Approx size: 4.6cm long x 3.5cm wide x 1.2cm (top to bottom). open ring size is 68 but can be adjusts to fir most ring sizes. Hand made in sustainable 925 sterling silver with a hand cut Maltese stalactite or stalagmite stone.
